The Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center is devoted to providing patients with the highest quality of surgical and nonsurgical care for brain, spine, and other neuralogical conditions through the use of leading-edge evidence-based methods. Treatment recommendations are formulated thoughtfully utilizing proven medical science, each carefully crafted for the unique presentation of an individual patient. For some patients surgery may be the answer. For others, it may not even be an option. There are cases when surgical correction of the pathology halts progression but alone is insufficient in restoring a level of function allowing resumption of daily activities. Rather than solely emphasing repair of pathology, Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center chooses to focus on Restoration.
Foundational to a comprehensive program of restoration is the ability to integrate numerous related specialties into a customized treatment program that functions entirely seamless to patients. Leading the interventional pain management branch of the comprehensive treatment plan for Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center is Ross Sugar, M.D.. Upon assuming the position, Dr. Sugar applied his diverse experience through the development of a leading edge invasive pain management suite integrated into the comprehensive programing available through the practice.
Utilizing detailed and highly personalized individual treatment plans, Dr. Sugar’s goal is to help restore patients such that they can resume their normal daily routines, a mindset that compliments the treatment philosophy of the Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center as a whole.

What Can You Expect?
At your first appointment with the Division of Interventional Pain Management, Dr. Sugar will talk to you about your past medical history, review other treatment you have received or planning to begin, and perform a thorough physical examination. Should have had testing done outside of Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center, try to bring with you any related x-rays or test results.
It is also very important for you to inform the doctor about other treatments you have tried, including medications that you are currently taking. Be sure to include alternative therapies you may have tried such as acupuncture, herbal remedies, or massage. Your present condition will be discussed, including where your pain is located, the severity, when it occurs, and if you are experiencing other symptoms related to your pain.
Before any treatments are started, your interventional pain management physician may perform diagnostic tests to rule out other conditions that may present similar symptoms. These tests may include x-rays, CT scan, MRI, and possibly blood tests.
Once you have settled on one of the treatment plans offered by Dr. Sugar, the practice will help you coordinate the necessary approvals and appointments. In most cases, interventional pain management treatments and services are offered in our facility, eliminating the need to go from place to place to receive care. Be sure to follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Your full participation in your treatment is important for a successful outcome.
