James Dowla received his undergraduate degree from Boston University and his Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland. James has extensive experience and post-academic training in the assessment and treatment of orthopedic, spine-related and sports-related injuries, ranging from pre- and post-operative back pain and cervical radiculopathy to shoulder, knee, hip, ankle and other joint-related problems.
Through the use of advanced medical techniques in a new state-of-the-art physical therapy facility, Mr Dowla will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Utilizing a hands-on approach affords him the opportunity to work directly with patients so that he can observe and measure individual progress, refining treatment plans in real-time. As a result, patients report a confidence in his commitment to walking with them through the process towards achieving maximal recovery.
James has served the physical therapy profession in many different settings, from outpatient services to inpatient treatment and specialized rehabilitation facilities. While working at the VA Hospital in Maryland, James had the opportunity to lead an amputee clinic and oversee the acute care, orthopedic, and neurological-related rehabilitation needs of veterans. Upon his return to the outpatient setting, James was appointed the director of a physical therapy clinic in Columbia, Maryland, serving in that capacity for five years.
Striving to always provide the most efficient and effective treatment paradigms for his patients, James engages in rigorous continuing education and clinical skills development courses. He then applies the preeminent evidence-based research as he methodically fine-tunes each patient's personalized treatment plan.

Upon assuming the position as Director of Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center Physical Therapy, James applied his diverse experience through the development and implementation of an integrated rehabilitation program including patient education, therapeutic exercise, and manual therapy.
Utilizing detailed and highly personalized individual treatment plans, James’ goal from the beginning has been to restore patients such that they can resume their normal daily routines, a mindset that compliments the conservative treatment philosophy of the Baltimore Neurosurgery and Spine Center as a whole.
